Initially embarking upon a sales and marketing career with Cadbury-Schweppes, I subsequently spent 34 years in the professional sport sector, leading the commercial and marketing operations at Manchester City Football Club, Lancashire County Cricket Club and Warrington Wolves.
Since finishing my career in sport, I have taken on several Non-Executive Director roles, initially with one of the UK’s largest housing associations, Jigsaw Homes and more recently with The Together Trust, who provide individual care, support and education services across the North West. Most recently I am delighted to have been appointed Vice Chair for Great Minds Together of course! In December 2023 I was selected to join the DFE’s new Fostering Advisory Board which is responsible for assisting the implementation of Government policy in the Childrens Social Care sector. Similarly, I work co-productively with Stockport LA to help revise and improve fostering-related policies, including assisting with the fostering recruitment strategy.
I am also Vice Chair of Stockport Foster Carers’ Association, which runs events for our cared-for children, in addition to representing our foster carers with Stockport Fostering Service.
In 2015 my wife and I become short- term foster carers and had the privilege of caring for some very special young people until 2023 when we took on a new fostering role as Mockingbird Hub Carers with Stockport LA, responsible for supporting up to ten fostering families.
Away from “work” my interests include music (listening and also singing, some have said at low-quality pub singer level!), watching Manchester City and trying to learn Padel tennis.

As the Operations Director for Outreach and Central Services at Great Minds Together, I bring a unique blend of Policing experience and a deep commitment to community service.
My name is Joanne Galeski, and my journey has been shaped by over a decade of serving as a Detective in the Criminal Investigation Department within the culturally diverse East Lancashire area. This experience has ingrained in me the understanding that solutions must be as unique as the individuals and families we aim to support.
My police career was marked by notable achievements, including attaining PIP Level 2 status as a Detective, alongside CPD qualifications in Specialist Interviewing and Family Liaison, among others. My dedication to expanding my expertise led me to pursue a Foundation degree in Forensic Science and Technology at the University of Central Lancashire, further broadening my investigative skills in a spectrum of crimes, particularly those affecting the most vulnerable in public protection areas.
I am a staunch advocate for continuous personal and professional development, recognising its critical role in adapting to evolving societal needs and maintaining the highest standards of accountability.
My athletic background, having competed in netball and athletics at a high level, has instilled in me the values of discipline, goal setting, teamwork, and the holistic benefits of sports on mental health and behaviour.
At my core, I am driven by a passion to make a difference in the lives of others. My role at Great Minds Together is more than a position; it's an opportunity to effect change, bridging gaps in education, social care, and health through a collaborative, multi-agency approach. I am committed to being a part of a team that not only envisions but also enacts positive, sustainable transformations in the lives of children, young people, and their families, proving that together, we can overcome the limitations of traditional remits to create a more inclusive and supportive society.
